Student of the Month   Ger-Marish Mayho

Ger-Marish Mayho is an SJH Junior enrolled in the Welding/Pipefitting course taught by Mr. Lane Beard at the CTC. He is the son of Geraldine and Martin Mayho from St. James.

Mayho“In this class, I’m learning how to make perfect overlap welds on top of another,” he said. “I would recommend this class to other students because it’s a great class. They can learn something new.”

After high school, he plans to enroll in a technical school to learn more about Welding. As recognition of his achievements, he received a certificate, backpack, hat, lunch bag, McDonald’s gift card, and other prizes.

Three CTC programs receive grants from The Brown Foundation

The ProStart culinary program, Agriculture, and Cosmetology each were awarded service learning grants totaling $7,539 and took a field trip to accept their checks. Each group created a program that will reinforce the class skills while helping the community at the same time. Cosmetology will visit a senior citizens center to visit with the residents and practice their manicuring skills. Agriculture will work with the Fast Food Farm, and ProStart will sponsor Cajun Day. The instructors who wrote the grants are Rachael Schexnayder, Felix Landry, and Aleshia Smith. This opportunity has been awarded to CTC students for several years now.
